Mychal Mulder inks summer league deal with Boston Celtics

The NBA’s Summer League won’t just be filled with rookies. There will be some veterans out in Las Vegas looking to earn a roster spot. Mychal Mulder will be one of those seasoned players.

The former junior college transfer and three-point specialist has agreed to terms with the Boston Celtics.

Mulder played two seasons at Kentucky spending time in the program from 2015-17. The Canada native shot 34.3 percent from three during his time in Lexington and played in 56 games with two starts under John Calipari. After the 2016-17 season where Mulder averaged 4.7 points on .403/.365/.923 shooting splits, Mulder went undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft before joining the Windy City Bulls in the G League.

It would take Mulder only a couple of seasons before getting his shot in the NBA. On Feb. 27, 2020, Mulder signed a 10-day contract with the Golden State Warriors and played in 67 games with the franchise over the next two seasons. Mulder then left Golden State following the 2020-21 season and signed a two-way contract with the Orlando Magic. The guard played in 17 games during the 2021-22 season with the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat. Mulder would then spend last season in the G League.

For his NBA career, Mulder is a 36.9 percent career three-point shooter on 3.8 attempts per game. The 29-year-old has played in 84 career NBA games and is looking to carve out a role for the 2023-24 season after averaging 16.8 points per game in the G League last season.

The Celtics did not have a first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. If Mychal Mulder has a strong showing next month, there is a chance that a two-way deal could be found for the veteran.
