Gators commit Nasir Johnson returns to Florida: ‘I feel like I’m actually at my house’

Shortly after committing to Florida last weekend, four-star defensive lineman Nasir Johnson mentioned that a trip to FSU was still a strong possibility for this weekend.

However, luckily for Gators fans, those plans never came to fruition. And on top of that, the Dublin (Ga.) standout made his way to UF today for the second consecutive week, this time for Friday Night Lights.

“(I came) to see what was going on and see what it was like. Just to watch and get a feel for how the camp goes,” Johnson told Gators Online’s Keith Niebuhr. “I loved it. There was a lot of competition with everybody competing and wanting to go again. It was pretty good work.”

With today’s return trip to campus, Johnson has now visited the Gators three times since the spring.

Obviously, only two visits were needed before the 6-foot-4, 300-pound rising senior pulled himself off the market, but those bonds in Gainesville continue to strengthen by the day.

“I feel like I’m actually at my house,” Johnson said when asked about his comfort level at UF.

One of those tight-knit relationships is with co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach, Sean Spencer.

“By talking to him, I’m getting more of a feel for how he is as a coach and person more as it goes,” Johnson said.

Johnson is not completely shutting the door on additional suitors

Although he didn’t make it to FSU today, it would not be a surprise if Johnson took additional visits.

His commitment with the Gators is very strong, but the recruiting process is not shut down by any means.

“I can’t say it’s over. I’m not pretty sure of how other coaches are going to take it who will keep recruiting me, but nine times out of 10, yeah, this is where I want to go,” Johnson said.

While no visits are officially on the calendar, Johnson does plan to attend UF’s Grill at the Ville cookout on July 29. That will be a massive recruiting event featuring numerous high-profile prospects like himself.

On top of that, Johnson will also be able to slip on his recruiting cap. That is a task he started taking on last weekend. Fellow defensive lineman, Nnamdi Ogboko, is one of those prospects currently on his radar, as the defenders spent a significant amount of time together during their official visits.

“A couple actually, and a couple young guys as well,” Johnson said of who he is recruiting.
