Newsstand: Notre Dame offers younger brother of Fighting Irish defensive end

Newsstand: Notre Dame offers younger brother of Fighting Irish defensive end

Notre Dame loves recruiting prospects with family ties to the program, and they offered a few class of 2027 players with strong Fighting Irish connections on Monday for Pot of Gold Day.

The staff offered defensive lineman Richie Flanigan, son of ex-Irish D-lineman Jim Flanigan and incoming freshman tight end James Flanigan. And they added elite wideout Julius Jones Jr. — son of former star running back Julius Jones Sr. — to their 2027 board as well.

Defensive line line coach Al Washington dished out an offer to Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian defensive tackle Alifeleti Tuihalamaka, who stands at 6-4, 260 pounds. His older brother is defensive end Junior Tuihalamaka, a headliner of Marcus Freeman‘s first class back in the 2022 cycle.

Notre Dame joined USC, Arizona State, Washington, Louisville, Sacramento State, Cal and Colorado State on his offer sheet. On3 lists Tuihalamaka as an offensive tackle prospect, but the Irish are after him as an interior defensive lineman.

The Fighting Irish offered just under 100 prospects Monday, and it’s very possible that a few more will trickle in Tuesday. Pot of Gold Day is the Notre Dame staff’s annual recruiting initiative where they really get things started in the rising junior class, offering several dozen players. The Irish started doing this back in 2021, and it has remained an important tradition.

Quote of the day

“Defensively, we have to lock in. I think that was the area, and they mentioned it on the television, we have to be better defensively. We’re a defensive-minded team. We showed it all season long. Have come up short these last couple weeks, so that’s what we’ve been focused on. What I’ve been focused on. And the team knows. They responded this last week.”
