Live Game Updates: Tennessee and Florida battle in SEC-opener

Southeastern Conference play is here as Tennessee welcomes Florida to Lindsey Nelson Stadium for the first of a three-game set beginning Friday evening at 6:30 eastern time.

No. 2 Vols (17-0) are off to the best start in program history while currently leading the country in home runs, OPS, slugging percentage, ERA and WHIP. The Vols are second in the nation in runs per game, on-base percentage, walks drawn, strikeout-to-walk ratio and strikeouts per nine innings.

The No. 7 Gators (16-2) started 11-0 before dropping back-to-back decisions against Miami (Sunday) and UCF (Tuesday) in midweek road action. Since, Florida has won five-straight, including a 7-2 win at previously unbeaten Florida State on Tuesday night.

The pitching matchup is poised to be a good one as it will be the battle of the ‘Liams.’ Tennessee’s lefty Liam Doyle (3-0, 0.44 ERA) challenges Florida’s righty Liam Peterson (4-0, 0.86 ERA) as the two aces have combined to surrender only three runs across 41.1 innings pitched this season.

Up Next: The Vols and Gators return to action Saturday afternoon at (UPDATED TIME) 3:30 eastern time for the second game of the series. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
