Penn State football held the 20th annual Lift For Life on Thursday evening inside Holuba Hall on Penn State’s campus. As it is each year, the event is a great opportunity to raise money for rare disease research. But it’s also a good time to check out the progress that the players have made over the summer since the end of spring football.

The defensive tackle room is one of the biggest questions about the Penn State defense heading into the fall. Did they get bigger? We got a chance to see some of them up close, and we’ll let you decide with our photo gallery.

Before we get to the defensive line, check out the redshirt freshman Vega Ioane’s transformation in just under a year.

Despite coming to Penn State at 330 pounds, Ioana has put on 20 more in the last year, according to the official website. Here he is nearly a year later.

Speaking of transformations, Dani Dennis-Sutton has been on campus for 18 months and has significantly changed his body during that time. Dennis-Sutton is just one of the players that have performed an impressive transformation in the weight program.

Penn State head coach James Franklin praised defensive tackle Hakeem Beamon for his offseason work. Beamon looks significantly bigger and stronger than he did last year at this time.

Penn State offensive linemen

Another group of players worth checking in with is the offensive line. The depth of talented players on the team is noticeable when they’re lined up in a group. Redshirt sophomore Landon Tengwall has noticed a huge jump in the talented young players around him.

“I don’t know if you guys remember spring ball two years ago. We were out there, six, seven linemen, struggling through that spring game. It’s a little different now when you have 20 guys, and ten, eleven that are experienced. I know that’s something Coach Franklin definitely emphasizes; he likes to get young guys reps when possible. I think that shows how these players are growing,” Tengwall said.

Freshman Anthony Donkoh is a big personality among the Penn State football players. He’s also a big person, standing out in a crowd of football players.

Young players

Finally, we’ll check in on some young players who took part in the festivities yesterday.

Now that he’s a receiver, Class of 2022 athlete Cristian Driver is repping the number 80.

Receiver Omari Evans shows off his hands and coordination by trying to catch consecutive punts without dropping a football. He reached his limit with four.

Penn State cornerback Cam Miller will be a critical player as the immediate reserve to Kalen King and Johnny Dixon this fall.
