Overtime OT7 Spring Football League kicks off this weekend

Overtime OT7 Spring Football League kicks off this weekend

The Overtime OT7 Football League kicks off play this week in Dallas with many of the nation’s top football prospects loading up on 18 teams, ultimately competing for a championship in June

The regular season will be played in Dallas over the next four weeks with a Golden Ticket Round then played on April 12-13.

A trophy will be hoisted June 26-29. South Florida Express are the defending National Champs. Last year’s team was led by Florida quarterback signee Tramell Jones Jr., Ohio State five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez and Texas receiver Jaime Ffrench. Auburn five-star quarterback signee Deuce Knight was On3’s MVP from championship play.

Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith was one of the many stars from 2023 and Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava was the MVP of 2022.

Overtime OT7 Season Four Format

Nine teams get things started Saturday on the Dallas College Mountain View campus.

“I think what I’m most excited about is it’s really becoming a league,” Overtime’s General Manager of Football Hunter Mandel said. “You’re going to see the future of college and the future of the NFL playing.

“Nobody has ever been able to consolidate the talent that is around the country and make it make sense. Where you have this league of all the future stars of the NFL playing against each other and you’re seeing matchups you wouldn’t see in the fall. You’re seeing matchups every single game and in the fall it’s hard to see those matchups more than a couple times in a season.”

The games will two 12-minute halves encouraging Hail Mary throws going into intermission. The pick seven and money drive worth 10 points will be back to add excitement.

“There’s three divisions,” Mandel said. “Win the division and you have an automatic berth to the playoffs. At-large bids like the College Football Playoff will be decided to the Overtime committee.

“I think the best aspect of the format is week five’s Golden Ticket event that will have 12 teams not part of the regular season compete for a playoff spot. Only one gets in from the Golden Ticket.

There will be plenty of NFL flavor with Heisman winners Cam Newton and Robert Griffin III coaching teams along with Michael Crabtree, Torrey Smith and JR Niklos each leading their respective squads.

“We don’t look at this as a 7on7 league,” Mandel stated. “This is the spring football league people should watch and care about. The views are coming in and the engagement is there. The players are working on their craft and you’re going to see the best of the best and guys you’re going to see on Sunday.”
