Stage 1 Highlights

The first stage at Phoenix was relatively controversy free, with only one notable wreck in the early going. William Byron took early control and never relinquished, taking home the stage win comfortably.

The winner of the Daytona 500 held off a late charge by Ryan Preece on the faster option tires, an impressive showing. Byron collected some extra points as a result.

Stage 2 Highlights

A wreck in the second stage at Phoenix took out a few cars when Chase Briscoe got sandwiched in between a few drivers and made contact with Justin Haley. That accordioned the cars to the outside wall, where they hit Carson Hocevar and then spun in front of several other drivers.

Hocevar, Briscoe, Haley, Riley Herbst, Cole Custer, Shane van Gisbergen and Brad Keselowski were all caught up in the chop, which took some time to clear from the track.

The stage ended with a late battle between Joey Logano on wearing-down option tires and Christopher Bell on the standard yellows. Bell took home the stage win to threaten for a three-peat after coming in off back-to-back race wins at Atlanta and Texas.

Stage 3 Highlights

An early wreck in Stage 3 at Phoenix by Katherine Legge changed everyone’s tire strategy quite a bit. Rather than running with option reds for most of Stage 3, the vast majority of the field switched to yellow primaries after the Legge-induced caution. It wasn’t until a caution came out courtesy of Bubba Wallace hitting the wall with 45 laps left that many drivers switched back to the red option tires.

After a few cautions chopped up the race late, Bell came down to the wire with Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson giving chase. He eked it out barely, notching the second-closest win at Phoenix in NASCAR Cup Series history. It was his third straight win on the circuit, matching the feat last accomplished by Kevin Harvick.
