FSU freshman Myles Bailey blasts 2 HRs in 10-1 win over UNF

Freshman first baseman Myles Bailey blasted a pair of home runs and junior right-hander Evan Chrest pitched six strong innings as the FSU baseball team cruised to a 10-1 victory Tuesday night against visiting UNF.

With the win, the Seminoles improved to 12-0 and while the Ospreys fell to 7-6.

Led by Bailey’s two homers, Florida State pounded out 14 hits against six UNF pitchers. Six different FSU batters finished with two hits on the night.

Bailey now has three home runs in his last three games.

“I told a bunch of people once I got that first one, it was gonna start coming from there,” the freshman from Tallahassee said.

UNF cut Florida State’s early lead to 2-1 in the second inning, but the Seminoles’ offensive attack was relentless, scoring in six different innings to put the game away.

Bailey finished his night 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, and FSU got several other impressive performances at the plate.

Outfielder Gage Harrelson went 2-for-4 with a double, shortstop Alex Lodise went 2-for-3 with a double and 1 RBI, outfielder Max Williams went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI, outfielder BJ Gibson went 2-for-4 with a double, and second baseman Drew Faurot went 2-for-5 with 1 RBI.

Chrest was very efficient for six innings in picking up the victory on the mound. He allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out three and walking one, and he improved to 2-0 on the season. Chrest retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced.

“I felt like I was hitting my spots, and everyone behind me was making plays,” Chrest said.

FSU relievers Connor Hults and Joe Charles handled the final three innings to close out the win.

Florida State’s defense also turned in several impressive plays on the night, with the biggest highlight coming in the seventh inning when Lodise ranged deep in the hole behind the third baseman and made a nifty stop and incredible leaping throw to gun down the batter at first base.
