UCF viciously trolls Florida after lopsided midweek win

The Florida baseball team had been on an absolute roll, winning its first 11 games of the season before losing to Miami in the series finale on Sunday.

UCF saw that as an opening, a weakness to potentially wiggle and exploit going into a Tuesday night home game against the team up north.

And, boy, did the Knights pounce.

Florida got its licks in but struggled to string things together, resulting in a relatively meager offensive output. On the flip side, UCF knocked out 13 hits and poured it on in a 13-3 rout.

Then the UCF creative team got… well, creative.

First, the UCF baseball account tweeted a graphic of a cartoon Knight squeezing a block letter ‘L’ into the jaws of a cartoon Gator, with the caption: “Knights Win!”

Shortly after, the UCF main account tweeted a final score graphic with a background photo of someone yanking on an alligator’s tail, with the caption: “Worked ’em silly.”

The reference, of course, is to a famous white sheet sign that Florida fans hang in the corner of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for football games that reads: “Work ’em silly.” The signage has even been captured in video games like EA Sports’ College Football 25, so it’s got an iconic place in Florida lore.

Insult to injury.

UCF was led at the plate by first baseman Lex Boedicker, who went 4-of-5 and knocked in one RBI. The main run-generators were DeAmez Ross and Edian Espinal, who both went 2-of-4 at the plate and finished with three and four RBI, respectively.

As for UCF, the Knights improved to 9-3 on the season with the win, having now won three straight.

Florida dropped to 11-2 overall and has now lost two straight after opening the season with 11 straight wins.
