College head coach on what Neal Brown would bring to Texas
Reports are circulating that former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown is in talks with Texas to accept a role on the support staff. This is something Inside Texas was trying to track down in the last few days.
Sark just hired Chad Scott from West Virginia to serve as running backs coach so clearly there’s something Sark saw that he liked in Morgantown the last handful of years. Just because it didn’t work out for Brown at WVU doesn’t mean he doesn’t have things to offer the Texas program.
IT caught up with a current college head coach to get his take on what Brown would offer the Longhorns.
You called it!
HC wise – organized / can be another reliable set of eyes and ears around program for Sark. Not there to try and back door sark’s job. Will be non-biased intelligent eyes and ears for sark to bounce things off of. Good talent evaluator. Practice structure, summer structure of workouts, did great job at WVU developing and maximizing what they had.
On offense he’s smart in terms of evaluating what opponents trying to do defensively. What hurts them and also very aware from self-scout standpoint and offensive efficiency. Was very involved special teams-wise also in terms of what they were doing at WVU and being efficient with practice time and development as a team. Will look at things as far as what’s best for the team, not just offense or defense.
