Newsstand: Notre Dame women’s basketball greats to return to South Bend for preseason game
Three former Notre Dame women’s basketball stars will return to South Bend for a WNBA preseason game between the Las Vegas Aces and Dallas Wings on May 2, the Irish announced Thursday.
Notre Dame greats Jewell Loyd and Jackie Young play for the Aces, while Arike Ogunbowale — best known for making a buzzer-beater to win the national championship — plays for the Wings.
Loyd was traded from the Seattle Storm to the Aces on Jan. 26, while Young has won two WNBA championships with the Aces after being drafted first overall in 2019.
“We are super excited to be able to welcome WNBA championship organizations in the Las Vegas Aces and Dallas Wings to Purcell Pavilion while supporting Arike, Jackie and Jewell and inspiring the current Notre Dame team and the South Bend community,” Irish head coach Niele Ivey said. “I always want to bring new experiences to our program, and I am thrilled we are able to do this while elevating and showcasing women’s basketball.”
Presale tickets will be available for women’s basketball season ticket holders March 4, men’s basketball/football/hockey season ticket holders March 6 and Notre Dame students March 11. Tickets will also be released to the general public March 11.

Quote of the day
“Aneyas for a young kid, just solid. You really watch him play in the game, and the way he attacks blocking, he’s got elite ball skills. I can’t remember what down it was, but it was a man defense, and I saw a middle linebacker run out with him. He catches a 40-yard pass. That was a big part of the game. So a ton of respect for him.”
