New Penn State pick logged in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine

Penn State picked up its first wide receiver commitment in the 2024 class on Wednesday in Philadelphia native Tyseer Denmark. A four-star prospect, Denmark had been coveted by the Nittany Lions for nearly two years. Despite an early commitment to Oregon last fall, their persistence never wavered. Now, Penn State holds commitments from the top three players in Pennsylvania according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
But today also marks 150 days since position coach Marques Hagans joined the coaching staff. A major reason head coach James Franklin made that change was because recruiting wasn’t at the standard that he expected.
Since Penn State signed just one receiver in 2023, this year’s class will require at least four signees, potentially more. Peter Gonzalez from Central Catholic in Pittsburgh is expected to be the next player to join the class. After taking an official visit to Penn State this past weekend, all signs point to Gonzalez joining his high school teammate, linebacker Anthony Speca, in PSU’s locker room in the years to come.
Recruiting: Where does Penn State rank in 2024 Team Rankings following Tyseer Denmark’s commitment?
But that still leaves at least two or three scholarships that are earmarked for the wide receiver room. If you saw our notebook Wednesday evening, we’re primarily focused on five players for those spots. Although I do have a pick in for Nick Marsh, another player feels more likely currently in Josiah Brown.
Becuase of that, I’m logging a new pick for Brown in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine Thursday.
During my interview with Brown Sunday evening, he admitted that Penn State and Rutgers were his “main two” schools. He also said that his expected official visit to Georgia was “undecided still.”
We spent the past few days working to see what Georgia planned to do, and as Sean Fitz first reported in his chat Wednesday afternoon, Brown won’t be going to Athens this upcoming weekend.
Brown almost committed to Rutgers in 2022 when a high school teammate committed, but he realized it would’ve been a forced commitment and held off. The Scarlett Knights have stuck around in this one longer than most battles against Penn State, but this is another player that should end up with the Nittany Lions. Keep an eye on Brown following Gonzalez’s commitment.
As of now, he makes to most sense to be the third wide receiver to join this class.
