Daytona 500: Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals how JRM team celebrated qualifying in duels, top-10 finish

Dale Earnhardt Jr. kept it simple when it came to the celebration of the JR Motorsports (JRM) team getting a top-10 finish in the Daytona 500. On Dale Jr. Download, Earnhardt was asked what he did to celebrate Justin Allgaier earning a P9 finish at “The Great American Race.”

“Right back to the real world man,” Earnhardt said.

While there wasn’t a big celebration for the top-10 finish at the Daytona 500, Earnhart revealed the team celebrated after Allgaier and JRM qualified in the duels. “We sat around the camper and drank some beer,” he said.

This was the first time JRM took part in the Daytona 500. The team is known for its work in the Xfinity Series, winning championships in 2014, 2017, 2018 and last year when Justin Allgaier drove the No. 7 Chevrolet. It led to JRM selecting him to drive the No. 40 car in the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

After the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr. told reporters the sponsorship with Traveller’s Whiskey helped JRM compete in the Daytona 500, and that could lead to the team getting into the Cup series full-time. “It really was good for me, I think, to come here and experience this, to see if it was truly something that I felt like I wanted,” Earnhardt said. “Because sometimes you wonder because of growing up in the sport and your last name, are you making yourself do this because you think it’s what you’re supposed to do? Do you really want to do it? This helped me understand that I do want to be here personally and I do feel like it’s what I should be striving for.

“And we love being in the Xfinity Series and we’ve got a great business model, and we think we do a great job there. But it would be a big challenge but something I think that Kelley and I could put a lot of effort in for the next several years. So we’ll see. We’ll see. We’ve been sitting at this position for a long time, and I know people get tired of hearing it from me. But I was so thankful for this opportunity. If this was it, this was it.”
