5 Things: Why Kansas State added running back commit John Price

1.) Kansas State landed their running back early in the 2024 class when Blue Valley’s John Price committed to the Wildcats. Chris Klieman and company didn’t wait long to offer after seeing him star for the Tigers during his junior year. One of his best halves of football actually came when the K-State head coach was in attendance. Unfortunately for Price, he was injured later in that contest. Though other Power Five schools hopped into the fray, it was Manhattan that was calling his name. The Wildcats were all in on him once they got to know him better after a few visits.
2.) Speaking of the competition for Price, Kansas State defeated Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma State for his services. Though his last visit was to see the Hawkeyes and they were the only other program to host him on multiple trips, KSO learned that Mike Gundy and the Cowboys were the school that finished second.
3.) Will K-State take another running back? That is the question that probably does not yet have an answer. Initially, the idea was to take two because they only added Joe Jackson last year. Remember, both DJ Giddens and Treshaun Ward can return to Kansas State after the 2023 season. Will they? That is just something that is impossible to answer at this point. Price was made aware that the Wildcats may take two. It just isn’t definite.
4.) Price is more of a one-cut back than a super elusive one like K-State fans were used to seeing in Deuce Vaughn. The speed is present and up to par, but what makes him stand out is his ability to stick his foot in the ground and accelerate. And his top trait is likely his vision. He is beyond his years in his knack for seeing a hole open up before it actually happens. Some extra weight and strength should help him play more through contact.
5.) The running back position is one where someone can play early. It has already happened a lot under assistant Brian Anderson at Kansas State. And he will enter a situation where at least some spot duty could be available as soon as year one.
