LSU and Ohio State have caught four-star WR Jeremiah McClellan’s attention in a big way

LSU and Ohio State have caught four-star WR Jeremiah McClellan’s attention in a big way

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Jeremiah McClellan is navigating through visits across the country this June as one of the nation’s top uncommitted pass-catchers continues to move closer toward the finish line.

McClellan, the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 20-ranked wide receiver out of Saint Louis (Mo.) Christian Brothers, is high on several schools like Missouri, Oregon, LSU and Ohio State. Of those contenders, the Buckeyes and Contenders have caught the four-star pass-catcher’s attention with their recent history of development at McClellan’s position.

“Ohio State and LSU, those schools put our wide receivers left and right,” McClellan told On3. “At those two schools, everyone is focused on getting to the league. That’s everyone’s goal … That’s the mindset that sets them apart from everyone else. Their mindsets of catching passes after practice, running routes with the quarterback and even when they don’t practice, working with the quarterbacks … They get to the league and practice, practice, practice, and I just like it.”

“LSU and Ohio State have been constantly putting out wide receivers,” he continued. “Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, they have a lot of great receivers. Garrett (Wilson), Chris (Olave) … their track records are really good and that stands out to me.”

The On300 wide receiver was in Baton Rouge for an official visit at the beginning of June and is among the Tigers’ primary targets in this cycle. Cortez Hankton has been a chief part of LSU’s surge with McClellan this offseason.

“I love Hank. He’s a great guy and has a great family,” McClellan started. “Him telling me that I can come there and work, too, and it’s not gonna be easy going against some of the best defensive backs in the nation. LSU had four DBs get drafted this year, and that means going against them every down is gonna get me better every single day.”

McClellan was back in Columbus on June 9 for his official visit — along with Five-Star Plus+ WR commit Jeremiah Smith. Brian Hartline is aiming to add the blue-chipper to a star-studded haul in 2024.

“Their main message was if you’re coming here for guarantees and handouts, then don’t come here at all,” he started. “You’re gonna have to grind and work your way to the top, and that fits me. I wasn’t given handouts my freshman year. I want to come here and work for my spot, earn my spot, and take my spot, too.”

“At Ohio State, they work for their spot,” McClellan continued. “Their goal is to get to the league. Everyone has the same exact goal, and it’s why I like Ohio State.”

McClellan will return to Oregon this weekend. Junior Adams‘s history with NFL receivers has also been on the receiver’s radar.

“At Oregon, Junior Adams produced Cooper Kupp — and Kupp still comes back to train with him,” McClellan said. “That speaks volumes, too.”

McClellan is still working out the kinks on a commitment date, but will have a decision in place ahead of his senior season at Saint Louis (Mo.) Christian Brothers gets underway.

He’s also eyeing one more trip to Missouri to “see what everyone is talking about down there.”

McClellan checks in as the No. 116 overall recruit in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
