Kansas State Question of the Week: More receiver or offensive line rotation?

DG: To be honest, neither of the Kansas State positions rotated much last season. It was typically the same five offensive linemen and same three receivers for most of the K-State snaps a year ago. The only real substitutes that took place were due to injury.
However, it could be different in 2023.
Kansas State has the most game-ready offensive line unit since Chris Klieman took over in Manhattan. All five starters from a year ago have returned, as well as Taylor Poitier who started the opening game in 2022 before missing the rest of the season due to injury.
Don’t forget that Carver Willis and Andrew Leingang also possess game experience for K-State as well. Sam Hecht and John Pastore are two younger players that assistant Conor Riley has mentioned as ascending as well.
That is 10 different offensive linemen with the potential to play at least a little bit for Kansas State this season.
There is some potential in the Wildcats’ wide receiver room,. The three starters could be Keagan Johnson, Phillip Brooks and either Jadon Jackson or RJ Garcia. While short on experience in Manhattan outside of Brooks, it is probably a more athletic crew in general.
Xavier Loyd and Seth Porter also saw some game action last season. For the answer to the question to be close and debatable, the younger receivers have to be reliable, effective and consistent, in my opinion.
If Sterling Lockett and a couple of the four true freshman receivers in Jayce Brown, Andre Davis, Tre Spivey and Wesley Watson are ready to play this season, some rotation is possible. It’s just tough to count on that.
Ultimately, it’s probably not close. K-State will rotate more along their offensive line.
Potentially, a double-digit number of offensive linemen could see the field for Kansas State this season and building a two-deep of receivers is still a challenge.
