Dalvin Cook says teaming up with DeAndre Hopkins is a possibility

Perhaps this is wishful thinking. But Dalvin Cook, the now former Viking, would love to team up with DeAndre Hopkins, who recently was released by the Cardinals.

Of course, one team would need a chunk of cap space to sign both these dynamic players. But could it happen? Cook sat down this week with ESPN’s Adam Schefter to give an update on his own situation as well as provide some details of what most interests him.

“If we end up on the same roster, that would be something epic for the NFL,” Dalvin Cook gushed about DeAndre Hopkins, aka D-Hop, the former Clemson standout.

“I know his mindset, and I done play against D-Hop a numerous amount of times,” Cook said. “When I been with D-Hop, we done chill together, we done been around each other like, and it’s like I kind of see the person that he is like, he want to win and that’s what my mind at to.

“I want to go win. Like I said, the money gonna come and that’s going to happen. But like as far as going to lift that [Vince Lombardi] Trophy up, he got the same mindset as me.”

Hopkins made two official visits last week. He first stopped in Tennessee for an unofficial job interview with the Titans. He then did the same with the New England Patriots in Foxborough, Mass. Most NFL experts project that Hopkins isn’t that much of a hurry to reach a decision about a new team. He can wait until training camps crank up next month.

Cook probably will wait for July 17th as well. There are three running backs — Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs and Tony Pollardwho received franchise tags. Jacobs and Barkley are trying for better deals and have skipped OTAs and mini camp. Those jobs could open up.

Both the Vikings and Cardinals tried to trade the two players. But with no takers meeting their demands, each team released the players earlier this month. While most believe Hopkins ends up with the Patriots, the popular projected destination for Cook is Miami. That’s his hometown. Plus, he played college football at Florida State. The Dolphins would love an upgrade to their running game. And Cook fits that. But the Dolphins don’t need a high-end receiver. They have those in Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle.

Dalvin Cook acknowledges that he hasn’t talked to DeAndre Hopkins about becoming a package deal.

“He was one of those guys that I was going to reach out to,” Cook said. “Because, like, I know he got the same mindset as me, like we trying to go win. We’re trying to go on the roster and trying to go contend.”

“If we can get up on the same roster and be on the same team, that will be the beauty of the situation,” Cook said.
