Three South Carolina football alums vying for Super Bowl rings

It’s Super Bowl Sunday. The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will face off in the New Orleans Superdome with the latter going for its third Lombardi Trophy in a row. Three South Carolina football alums could earn rings during the Big Game.
No former Gamecocks are on the active rosters for either the Eagles or the Chiefs. However, tight end Nick Muse finished the season on the practice squad in Philadelphia after spending most of the year with the Minnesota Vikings. Cornerback Darius Rush also concluded the 2024 season on a practice squad, moving from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Chiefs.
On the coaching side, former Gamecock defender Rod Wilson will look for his fourth overall Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs. Wilson has spent six of the last eight seasons in Kansas City. One of the two years he wasn’t with the Chiefs (2020), he worked as the linebackers coach at South Carolina. Wilson has worn several coaching hats in KC, but in 2024, he has served as the team’s outside linebackers coach.

Super Bowl LIX will kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Fox will broadcast the contest. Both the FoxSports app and the NFL app will make it available for streaming, as well.
During their South Carolina football careers, Rush, Muse, and Wilson all made big impacts on the program. Wilson and Muse each earned All-SEC honors (Wilson as a hybrid linebacker/safety, Muse at tight end), and Rush should have. All three players earned NFL Draft selections. Wilson went in the 7th round to the Chicago Bears in 2005, Muse also earned a 7th round pick from the Minnesota Vikings in 2022, and Rush went off the board to the Indianapolis Colts in the 5th round in 2023.
