Touted TE Edward Whiting commits to Michigan State

Sioux Falls (Idaho) Jefferson tight end Edward Whiting has committed to Michigan State.

Tabbed by On3 as the nation’s No. 19 tight end, the 6-foot-6, 230-pound Whiting chose to play for the Spartans over an offer list that included Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Nebraska, Florida, Illinois, Missouri and many others.

Whiting becomes commit No. 3 for head coach Jonathan Smith and his staff in the 2026 cycle. Future position coach Brian Wozniak was the lead recruiter.

“Just the connection I had with Coach Wozniak and Coach Smith felt right compared to other places,” Whiting said.

“It’s cool to see they’re in year one and seeing what they did at Oregon State and how they can change what happened at Michigan State the past couple years and build something special.”

Whiting said the time “felt right” to commit.

“First Coach Woz played tight end, actually played the position,” Whiting said. “They had faith in me from the beginning and continued to show that. They’re the most constant out of all the people recruiting me.”

The Spartans offered Whiting in October after showing a lot of personal interest prior. He visited for the last game of the season in November.

Whiting is the second commitment of the weekend joining four-star quarterback Kayd Coffman.
