Liam Coen reportedly accepts Jaguars head coaching job

Liam Coen is heading to Jacksonville after all.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini broke the news Thursday night that Coen, who was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator this season, was in negotiations to be the next head coach of the Jaguars. Minutes later, Buccaneers reporters confirmed the news, capping off a wild couple of days for the former Kentucky OC.

I can confirm that Liam Coen has notified the Bucs he’s taking the Jaguars’ head coaching job. Wild turn in last two days, taking his name out of Jags’ search to get a nice raise and stay with Bucs, only to change course for much larger raise and top job in Jacksonville.

Coen was already considered a top candidate to land the Jaguars gig earlier this week before pulling his name out of the race on Wednesday after Tampa Bay offered him a raise. But he decided to pull a fast one once Jacksonville fired general manager Trent Baalke, going dark on the Bucs from there. One day later, Coen landed his first NFL head coaching job.

In 2024 under Coen’s guide, Tampa Bay finished fourth in the NFL regular season in scoring with 29.5 points per game and third on offense with 399.5 yards per game. He’s been pretty good since leaving Kentucky for the pros after one season (twice).
