LA Wildfires: NASCAR joins relief efforts with new merchandise line

As part of a collective of sports leagues, NASCAR is helping out LA wildfire relief efforts with a new line of merchandise. Fanatics is getting its league partners together to do good while also putting out a line of merch for fans.

The LA wildfires have been devastating. It is going to take a huge effort to rebuild. Fanatics has asked its league partners such as NASCAR to take part in this special merch fundraiser.

NASCAR “LA Strong” merchandise is available for purchase now. All proceeds are going to the American Red Cross as well as the LA Fire Department Foundation. That merch can be bought from the Fanatics LA Strong site.

NASCAR has joined with Los Angeles sports organizations and Fanatics to help raise much-needed funds for victims of the devastating wildfires and the first responders supporting the fight.

NASCAR fans can pick between a black t-shirt or a black hoodie. Both have the “LA Strong” logo with the NASCAR branding underneath. These are going to help people in need and I’m sure that NASCAR fans will be buying lots of these shirts and hoodies.

O course, the sport has largely moved away from the Los Angeles area this year. There will be no race in Southern California with the Clash moving to Bowman Gray and Fontana’s track being demolished.

However, the LA wildfires rage on and there are so many people who need help out there. It is a place that a lot of NASCAR drivers have called home at one point or another, it has a special place in NASCAR history, and it’s great to see the sport helping out however they can.

LA Wildfires: NASCAR driver’s dad battling blazes

As the fires rage in California, NASCAR driver Garrett Smithley is cheering on his dad who is fighting the flames from the sky. Flying a DC-10 Air Tanker, Capt. RK Smithley has taken multiple flights dropping fire retardant over the affected areas.

Over the weekend, Garrett Smithley’s dad gained a bit of social media fame. KTLA captured a video of Capt. Smithley dropping fire retardant over the burning landscape, and it was quite an impressive maneuver.

The wildfires in California have destroyed entire communities and neighborhoods. With fires still raging, there are worries about when this disaster will be contained.

Unfortunately, even pilots like Capt. Smithley feel that this is a hard battle to win. There is also the issue of drones illegally flying in the area.
