Michigan transfer portal: OT Jeffrey Persi departing program

Michigan Wolverines graduate offensive tackle Jeffrey Persi has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He will have one season of eligibility remaining at his next stop. Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press was the first to report the veteran’s departure.

Persi appeared in 38 games in his Michigan career, including 14 on the offensive line with three starts at left tackle. He was part of Michigan’s Joe Moore Award-winning lines in 2021-22 as a reserve and is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2021-22, 2024).

Persi played guard and tackle this season and started a pair of road games at Washington on Oct. 5 and Illinois on Oct. 19, both losses. His other start came during the 2022 season in a road win at Rutgers.

“Being able to have Jeff Persi play a game and start gives confidence to him, so it gives him the ability to maybe swing in there and give us some work as well,” head coach Sherrone Moore said this season when pressed into action for Myles Hinton.

Coming out of high school at JSerra Catholic in California, Persi was a four-star recruit and the No. 310 recruit in the country. He ranked 32nd among offensive tackles and 27th in the state.

Persi’s departure leaves Michigan with 7 scholarship offensive tackles heading into the winter with senior Connor Jones, junior Evan Link, sophomores Andrew Sprague, Ben Roebuck, Blake Frazier and Brady Norton and freshman Andrew Babalola. The Wolverines are also in the mix for five-star 2025 recruit Ty Haywood, who recently decommitted from Alabama.
