2025 four-star LB Zaydrius Rainey-Sale lands Miami Hurricanes offer after attending camp: “I felt blessed”

After making a trip from the West Coast to South Florida, four-star Spanaway (Wa.) Bethel High School linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale earned an offer from the Miami Hurricanes after an impressive outing during their June 15 prospect camp.
“I felt blessed,” Rainey-Sale told CaneSport. “I just thought to myself that all of my handwork is paying off.”
Extending the offer to the No. 128 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, were Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal and linebackers coach Derek Nicholson.
“It was a great conversation with coach Cristobal and the coaches,” Rainey-Sale said. “The linebackers coach was just telling me what he liked about me, what I did during the day, and how I played.”
The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder had the opportunity to work with Nicholson during the day’s activities and was delighted with what he observed and the Hurricanes coach’s coaching style.
“I like the intensity he had,” Rainey-Sale said. “He would make sure we finished everything through and made it competitive. It was always a competition with everything we did, so it was great.”
Not only was the No. 2 overall prospect in Washington in the 2025 class wowed by Nicholson, but the whole Miami coaching staff left a lasting impression on Rainey-Sale.
“The coaches are very chill, and I can tell they have a great work ethic,” Rainey-Sale said. “The campus is amazing, and the weather is beautiful.”
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Washington is the early favorite to land Rainey-Sale’s commitment with a 28.8% probability, but not by much as programs such as Oregon State (25.2%), Florida State (21.6%), and Miami (18%) closely follow.
“When I look at a school, I look at how my position coach coaches and how their players perform,” Rainey-Sale said. “I just want to see good coaches that want to see their players stride and a coach that pushes them to keep working more and more to see him be great.”
CaneSport’s take
Rainey-Sale was among the top performers during Miami’s second prospect camp of the summer after showcasing his outstanding coverage skills from the linebacker position. Miami is among the first programs to offer the fast-rising linebacker, who has the potential to be one of the top defensive prospects coming out of the West Coast in the 2025 class, which may bode well for the Hurricanes down the road.
