Terry McLaurin sends poignant message to Ohio State after Commanders’ playoff win

One of the NFL’s top stars in the Wild Card round of the playoffs has a message for his former team in college. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin made sure it was heard loud and clear at Ohio State, too.

On SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt, McLaurin opened up.

“You see this smile on my face. Life is great right now. We’re winning in the playoffs. Buckeyes are in the national championship,” he said. “I got the Buckeyes. Shoutout to coach (Ryan) Day. Shoutout to all the guys back in Ohio. Go finish the job. You guys are built for it. Everything you’ve been through is for this moment.”

Ohio State advanced to the national championship game with a convincing win over Texas.

After a disappointing end to the regular season that included a fourth-straight loss to Michigan, Ohio State has taken things up a notch and hit a new gear. The team has now dispatched two different SEC teams in the playoffs, as well as the No. 1 overall seed in the College Football Playoff.

Suffice it to say, the momentum in Columbus is real. And McLaurin wanted to keep the love going.

Terry McLaurin is in his sixth year in the NFL, all with the Washington Commanders. He was instrumental in a last-second win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night.

McLaurin logged seven catches for 89 yards and a touchdown in the win. It continued an excellent season for him, one of his best in the NFL.

During the regular season, McLaurin accounted for 82 catches for 1,096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns. In doing so, he was named to the Pro Bowl and was also a second-team All-Pro selection in 2024.

Terry McLaurin suited up for Ohio State from 2014-2018. He hauled in 75 catches for 1,251 yards and 19 touchdowns before becoming a third-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
