Hawkeyes add WR transfer Sam Phillips
Chattanooga wide receiver transfer Sam Phillips has decided on his next college destination. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Phillips will be playing at the University of Iowa in 2025, which is a big win in the transfer portal for the Hawkeyes.
Along with Iowa, Phillips made an official visit to Virginia Tech and also had interest from Memphis, USC, California, and Pittsburgh, among others.
Originally from Cartersville, Georgia, Phillips has one year of eligibility remaining. At Chattanooga, he was a first-team all-conference selection in 2024 after catching 49 passes for 803 yards and three touchdowns. Over his three-year career with the Mocs, Phillips had 153 catches for 2,088 yards and nine touchdowns.
Overall, Phillips is the fifth addition for Iowa from the transfer portal this recruiting cycle, joining quarterbacks Mark Gronowski and Hank Brown and defensive tackles Jonah Pace and Bryce Hawthorne.
