Jalen Milroe not ready to reveal NFL draft decision after bowl loss
TAMPA, Fla. – Was Alabama’s loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl the final college game for Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe? Most likely, but following the 19-13 loss, Milroe was non-committal when he was asked if he’d made his upcoming NFL draft decision.
“Right now, I’m just gonna try to soak up this moment today and not really try to focus on any future endeavors,” Milroe said.
Milroe is expected to turn pro after his fourth year at Alabama, and the quarterback – as well as the Tide’s other top NFL draft prospects – have until Wednesday, January 15, to declare.
Milroe, a redshirt junior, chose not to opt out of Alabama’s bowl game after the team was left out of the 12-team College Football Playoff. On Tuesday in Tampa, Milroe threw for 192 yards, one touchdown and one interception while completing 16-of-32 passes. He also for seven yards on 16 attempts but was sacked five times (53 yards) and lost two fumbles.
The 2024 William V. Campbell Trophy winner has thrown for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 64.5 percent of his passes this fall. Milroe has also rushed for a team-high 726 yards and 20 touchdowns on 168 attempts in his 13 outings.
While Milroe isn’t ready to make his draft decision public, he is considered the No. 32 overall player in the 2025 class and the No. 3 quarterback, according to CBS Sports’ prospect rankings. He was behind only Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
After what may be his final game, Milroe shared what it’s meant to be Alabama’s quarterback.
“It means a lot,” Milroe said. “I put everything on the line … a lot of hardships along the way, a lot of doubt, a lot of things along the process. The one thing for certain is I just remained faithful. I met a lot of great people along the way. It’s truly an honor to wear the script A each and every Saturday, win or loss. I don’t take it lightly at all.
“It’s been an amazing journey just to see, wearing the script A, being a leader, being a captain for this amazing football team. Along this journey, there’s been a lot of eye-opening things and I’ve learned so much that it’s gonna help catapult me to anything that I wanna achieve with being a quarterback at Alabama. I’m truly honored, blessed no matter what.
“No matter if we win every single game, no matter is we lost, I’m truly appreciative to play quarterback and play at the Division-I level and be able to have the opportunity to play. That’s what I take away beyond anything. I’m just truly honored, thankful and just gonna always give praise.”
