Priority South Carolina target Cam Scott talks recruitment, decision timeline

One of South Carolina basketball’s priority targets in the 2024 class, Cam Scott, is entering the home stretch of his recruitment.
Scott is coming off a fantastic few weeks on the circuit. And he has just a few more visits lined up as he nears a decision sometime in the early fall with South Carolina still in the mix.

“They’re the backyard team. Being right there and having easy accessibility to me and my family, it’s one of those things where you have to appreciate the little things they do for you,” Scott said Friday.
“At the same time, they’re showing love. I have to be able to see myself getting better there. If that’s the place I can see myself at, I feel like I could be.”
The Gamecocks have prioritized Scott since the moment Lamont Paris took the job at South Carolina. They offered him quickly and got him on campus multiple times over the last year.
He’s been on an official since Paris and his staff took over. And the Gamecocks were front and center at his games Friday as the Scholastic evaluation period kicked off in Rock Hill.
Paris was courtside for both games along with lead assistant Tanner Bronson.
It’s a relationship South Carolina’s tried to cultivate with Scott for over a year now. He said it feels less like a recruiting call when he hears from the Gamecocks now.

“Now with South Carolina, it’s gotten to a point where it’s conversating. It’s normal conversations like how’s life, how’s school and how’s everything going,” Scott said. “Talking with them, it’s more of a man-to-man conversation instead of the recruiting process.”
But if the Gamecocks are going to land a commitment from him, they’ll have to do it competing against other really good programs. Scott recently took a trip out to Oregon. Current Ducks assistant Chuck Martin–who recruited Scott during his time at South Carolina–was courtside Friday.
Alabama’s Nate Oats was also there to watch Scott in Rock Hill. The Tide is one of the newest suitors to his recruitment. Scott said he’s working on finalizing a trip to Tuscaloosa and has a trip to Ole Miss set up for Sept. 30.
Chris Beard, who’s with the Rebels now, recruited Scott during his time at Texas.

Those are the only two visits lined up for Scott at the moment with him eyeing a commitment sometime before he starts his senior season at Lexington.
“Just talking to a couple of coaches with a couple of new schools reaching out and seeing what it’s like,” he said. “Talking with them and talking with my family and breaking everything down, we’ll probably have a season before school ball.”
On3 considers Scott the No. 19 player in the class and the sixth-ranked shooting guard. He checks in at No. 25 in the On3 Industry ranking with both having him as a four-star prospect.
“There are a lot of things I can do to take my game to another level. But right now I feel like there are certain spurts where I’m doing the right things all the time,” Scott said. “Then come out on the floor and show what I’ve worked on.”
Scott is coming off a really pivotal few weeks, earning co-MVP at the Pangos All-American Camp and going to Team USA tryouts last week in Colorado.
He was already on a ton of national radars, but his performances there helped build out his profile even more.

“It was my first time out (at Pangos) and I’ve wanted to go to that since I was little. It was an awe-inspiring moment, especially winning MVP,” he said. “I played my heart out and it felt right to be out there. I had the right teams with me and the right coaches coaching for me.”
