Kentucky among biggest shoppers in winter transfer portal window

Kentucky left the 2024 season knowing that a roster overhaul was needed before the 2025 team started winter workouts at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility when the spring semester got started in January. The winter window opened on Dec. 9 and is slated to close on Dec. 28. That window will be extended for teams currently in the postseason, but a large majority of the work is done.

The Wildcats lost 20 scholarship players to the portal but has replaced them with 21 high school additions and 14 scholarship transfers. Only six programs have added more transfers than Kentucky this offseason.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State are the only SEC programs to add more transfer than Kentucky at this point. Arkansas and Auburn are sitting at 14 additions along with Kentucky. LSU (13), Missouri (11), and Vanderbilt (10) are other teams with double-digit transfer additions in the conference. Louisville has become one of the biggest transfer portal programs in the sport and currently has 13 additions.

The plan was for Kentucky to lean into the portal. We’re seeing that play out.
