Hawkeye Tailgater Preview

The Iowa coaching staff is set to host their annual Hawkeye Tailgater on Saturday with several top targets in the Class of 2025 expected to be in attendance. In this update, we take a closer look at each of the prospects invited, where Iowa currently stands in their recruiting, and much more.

Nicolai Brooks

Big offensive tackle Nicolai Brooks, who is now an in-state prospect after moving back home to Cedar Rapids, will be on campus in Iowa City on Saturday. The 6-foot-7, 345-pound Brooks spent the last two years playing high school football in Georgia but will be enrolling at Cedar Rapids Kennedy this fall. Brooks, a Class of 2025 prospect, earned an offer from Iowa on his last visit to campus back in April and immediately put the Hawkeyes among his favorites.

A four-star prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking of 91.51, Brooks currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Alabama, Georgia, Iowa State, NC State, South Carolina, Penn State, Auburn, LSU, Florida State, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, Texas, Miami, Mississippi State, Florida, Louisville, Tennessee, Central Florida, Grambling State, and UAB.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Iowa as a heavy favorite with an 86.9% chance to land Brooks’ commitment followed by SEC powerhouses Alabama and Georgia at 2.2% and 1.9% respectively.

Thomas Meyer

Right behind Brooks in the state rankings for 2025 is Clear Lake tight end/defensive end Thomas Meyer, who will also be in Iowa City on Saturday. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Meyer has Division I offers on both sides of the ball with the Hawkeyes projecting him at tight end and others, like Iowa State, more at defensive end. Meyer, who grew up a Hawkeye fan, is wide open to either possibility.

A four-star prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking of 90.08, Meyer currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas, and Minnesota.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently lists Iowa as the odds-on favorite to land Meyer, putting it at a 99.8% chance right now.

Brock Schott

Highly sought after tight end Brock Schott will be making his first visit to Iowa City this weekend. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Indiana native received a scholarship offer from Iowa in early May and is interested in learning more about the Hawkeyes.

A four-star prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking of 90.62, Schott currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Miami, Louisville, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Toledo, Ball State, and Western Michigan.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Michigan State as a slight favorite at 20.4% followed by Indiana at 17.9%, Louisville at 15.3%, Wisconsin at 12.8%, and Iowa and Miami both at 12.8%.

Dominik Hulak

Linebacker Dominik Hulak has a pair of teammates, Eric Karner and KJ Parker, looking at Iowa in the Class of 2024 and it appears he will be giving the Hawkeyes a long look in the Class of 2025 as well. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Hulak was on campus for Iowa’s spring scrimmage on April 15, which is when he received an offer from head coach Kirk Ferentz, and will return this weekend for the Hawkeye Tailgater.

A three-star prospect with an On3 Industry Ranking of 87.83, Hulak currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Notre Dame, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Purdue, and Louisville.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently lists Iowa as the favorite at 42.7% followed by Illinois at 25.3%, Notre Dame at 11.4%, and Purdue and Wisconsin both at 9.5%.

Christian Pierce

Also at linebacker, highly sought after Chicago native Christian Pierce will be visiting the Hawkeyes this weekend. A 6-foot-0, 215-pound prospect with a 6-foot-4 wingspan, Pierce is an intriguing prospect out of Brother Rice High School with a long list of suitors and several other blue bloods showing early interest. This weekend will mark his first visit to Iowa City.

Not yet rated by On3, Pierce currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, Arizona State, Boston College, Missouri, Louisville, and Akron.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Iowa as the favorite at 58.3% followed by Purdue at 4.6%, and Wisconsin at 4.0%.

Burke Gautcher

Another linebacker visiting this weekend is Burke Gautcher from Sycamore, IL, which produced former Hawkeyes Ben and Nick Niemann. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Gautcher received an offer from Iowa earlier this month and will be making his first visit to campus on Saturday.

Not yet rated by On3, Gautcher currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, and Kent State.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Illinois as a slight favorite at 36.5%, followed by Iowa at 32.0% and Minnesota at 27.4%.

Joseph Reiff

Staying in the state of Illinois, Class of 2025 defensive lineman Joseph Reiff will be making a return trip to Iowa City this weekend. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Elmhurst, IL native was at Iowa’s camp earlier this month after receiving a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes in May, which was his first Division I opportunity at the time.

Not yet rated by On3, Reiff currently holds scholarship offers from Iowa and Purdue.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has Iowa as a solid favorite at 76.3% followed by Purdue at 23.7%.

Mason Woods

Moving back in-state, Mason Woods has grown up around the Hawkeye program with his father, LeVar Woods, on the coaching staff and a former player at Iowa. This month, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Iowa City West product earned a scholarship offer at Iowa’s camp after working out at tight end with Abdul Hodge and the Hawkeye coaching staff. Woods, who is still growing, also has the versatility to play wide receiver, safety, or linebacker in college.

Will Tompkins

Class of 2025 in-state offensive lineman Will Tompkins has seen his recruiting pick up after earning a scholarship offer at Iowa’s State camp on Tuesday. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Tompkins will be attending Iowa’s camp next week, but before that the coaching staff will have him on campus for the Hawkeye Tailgater this weekend as they continue to get to know one another.
