Former BC QB Thomas Castellanos commits to Florida State
The Florida State Seminoles have picked up their first commitment of this transfer cycle, and it’s a very important one as former Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos has announced his pledge to the Seminoles.
At Florida State, Castellanos will be reunited with former coach and new FSU offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. The dual-threat QB started his college career under Malzahn at UCF and then spent most of the past two years at Boston College.
Castellanos did not finish the 2024 season in Chestnut Hill, but he was productive during his year-and-a-half with the Eagles. In 2023, he threw for 2,248 yards, 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions; he also rushed for 1,113 and 13 touchdowns on 215 carries.
Before leaving BC this season, he passed for 1,366 yards and 18 touchdowns with five interceptions.
Florida State coach Mike Norvell recruited Castellanos out of high school, but the Seminoles preferred him as an “athlete.” During his two years with the Eagles, he was a thorn in the side of the FSU defense.
In a 28-13 victory at Doak Campbell Stadium this season, Castellanos completed 10 of 16 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and he also ran 14 times for 73 yards and another score.
In a 31-29 loss to Florida State in 2023, he completed 20 of 33 passes for 305 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries.
Out of high school, Castellanos was considered one of the most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks in the Southeast as he rushed for 968 yards and 13 touchdowns his senior season. He also posted 69 career rushing touchdowns in his career at Ware County (Ga.) High.
The explosive plays didn’t stop there as he was also productive as a passer, throwing for 2,613 yards and 25 touchdowns his senior year. In his career at Ware County, he had 66 passing touchdowns.
At Florida State, Castellanos will join a quarterback group of Brock Glenn, Kevin Sperry and Trevor Jackson.
