Isaiah Bond injury update: Steve Sarkisian gives latest on Texas WR before College Football Playoff

Steve Sarkisian is hopeful he can get Isaiah Bond back for Texas’ opening round playoff game against Clemson.
But as of now, Bond is a complete unknown. No, not quite like Bob Dylan or someone, but Bond is set to get an MRI, according to Sarkisian.
The Texas head coach only acknowledged it was a tough injury for his top wideout.
“IB, he’s getting an MRI on that ankle, I think (it was) pretty clear everybody saw him get rolled up,” Sarkisian said. “I don’t have anything further on that from a severity standpoint.”
Bond finished the SEC Championship Game with just one catch for 22 yards.
In 12 of 13 possible games, Bond has 33 catches, 532 yards, five touchdowns and 16.1 yards per catch in his first year after transferring from Alabama.
Isaiah Bond unknown for College Football Playoff
Whether Bond is out there or not, Texas and Sarkisian know they have to take advantage of the opportunity. Texas hosts Clemson in the first round and the winner advances to play Arizona State.
“This was a heck of a football game,” Sarkisian said coming up short in the SEC title game. “And they’re, like I said, I have a ton of respect for their program and their team, what Kirby (Smart)‘s done here for seven, eight years now. So we knew it was going to take 60 minutes. I didn’t know it was going to take 60 minutes plus overtime …
“We knew that’s what this game would take. And so we challenged them on Monday about, ‘whatever you’ve got in your tank we’ve got to empty the tank Saturday.’ We’ll have plenty of time to recharge our batteries and refuel our tank. But I think every guy that was out there battling, competing, left it all out there. And that’s all you can ask of as a coach.”
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is highly respectful of Sarkisian, Bond, Quinn Ewers and others on a loaded Texas roster. It’ll be the Tigers’ biggest challenge of the season.
“They’ve had a great year. Sark’s done an amazing job,” Swinney said. “We’re really excited about it and look forward to the preparation process and a great matchup out there. Just thankful to have an opportunity to go compete at the highest level.”
