College Football Playoff: Paul Finebaum predicts which teams will make National Championship

The 12-team College Football Playoff is here and there is finally an official bracket. That means it’s also time to look ahead at what teams are positioned to make deep runs in the Playoff and potentially win a national championship this season.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum and Matt Barrie broke down the teams they think will make the National Championship Game while on The Matt Barrie Show. There, the two came up with some similar answers on what teams to look out for.

“I think at this point I’m probably adjusting,” Paul Finebaum said. “I’m moving away from Ohio State, even though they have been my…I’m saying Oregon and Georgia. Do they face each other before?”

Ohio State is set to be hosting a first round game against Tennessee in the Playoff. Finebaum, as he shared, isn’t as high on them anymore and instead pointed to the first-seed and the second-seed as teams to keep an eye on making a deep run. Both of those teams, Oregon and Georgia, will have first round byes.

For his part, Matt Barrie views Ohio State differently in the Playoff and thinks that they are going to make a deep run and meet Georgia in the National Championship Game. In doing so, they would need to beat Tennessee and then beat Oregon in the quarterfinals. For Georgia’s part, the Bulldogs’ first game will be against the winner of the Notre DameIndiana game.

“I can confirm that you did do the bracket correctly in your head. They would not meet until the National Championship Game. It’s funny. I have an Ohio State-Georgia National Championship. I think Ohio State understands they’re playing with house money and I still think they’re the most talented roster in college football. A la what we saw a few years ago when Ohio State could have beaten Georgia in the semi-finals,” Barrie said.

“I think it’s gonna be something similar even though they don’t have CJ Stroud at quarterback. They have Will Howard.”

The first round of the College Football Playoff is set to begin on December 20th with the game between Notre Dame and Indiana in South Bend. The next three games of the first round will be played on December 21st.

“So, it’s set. The College Football Playoff 12-team edition is here, and shocking, everyone is still complaining about it,” Barrie concluded.
