Elite 11 Finals: Day 1 Top Performers

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. – Twenty of the 2024 cycle’s top signal callers are in Southern California this week for the Elite 11 Finals, which kicked off on Wednesday night. As has been the case in past years, the first day of the three day event featured drill work, with the quarterbacks separated into four groups and working through different stations.
The setting allows for a direct side-by-side comparison of the majority of the cycle’s top passers. We’re able to get a sense for some of the physical tools, passing ability and level of development of the participants. This order is based solely on the performances from Wednesday night. We place an emphasis on the ability to make high-level throws and consistency on a pass to pass basis along with the overall physical skill set in this setting.

On3 MVP: Ethan Grunkemeyer, Penn State commit
Lewis Center (Ohio) Olentangy three-star Penn State commit Ethan Grunkemeyer had a very strong day showing Day 1 of the Elite 11 Finals. From the first drill his arm immediately jumped out. The ball came out of his hands with a ton of velocity and you could argue that the ballistics on his ball looked to be among the best out here.
The velocity and ability to drive the ball to all levels stood out.
He was a standout in every station they went through. He threw flag routes, deep-in routes and was probably the best to go through that station. He came in second during the rail shot competition at the end of the event which is a very difficult throw down the left sideline that calls for arm strength and the ability to layer the ball and make it catchable.
He was last in line for that competition and just had throw after throw that was extremely impressive. It really showed some competitive fire and calm nerves in a setting where everyone was watching. From start to finish it was a very strong day for Grunkemeyer.
Other top performers to come.
