Illinois DL Enyce Sledge plans to enter transfer portal
Illinois defensive tackle/nose guard Enyce Sledge plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced.
“I will be entering the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility remaining plus medical shirt if needed,” he wrote on X.
Sledge is a former three-star recruit from the 2022 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.
The Monroe, LA native logged two tackles during his time with the Fighting Illini.
Sledge was originally committed to Auburn out of high school, he transferred away from the program after the 2023 season. There, Sledge redshirted during the 2022 season and only saw 11 snaps in two games during the 2023 season. He didn’t record any stats.
Illinois finished the regular season with a 9-3 record after defeating Northwestern 38-28 over the weekend.
The portal officially opens on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
