Michigan State DE Ken Talley to enter transfer portal

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State has lost its first player to the transfer portal three days after its season came to an end.

Redshirt sophomore defensive end Ken Talley announced on Tuesday that he will enter the transfer portal when it opens on Dec. 9. The Philadelphia native played two seasons at Michigan State after transferring in from Penn State during the first month of the 2022 season, which he redshirted.

“First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to Mel Tucker and Michigan State University for giving me the incredible opportunity to be part of such a prestigious program and institution,” Talley said in a statement released to Twitter. “That being said, I’ve decided it’s time to take my talents elsewhere and make the most of the two years of eligibility I have remaining. Thank you, Spartan nation, for your unwavering support and love. I will always be proud to call myself a Spartan Dawg.”

Talley (6-3, 256) got off to a hot start this fall, logging a combined five tackles and 1.5 sacks in Michigan State’s first three games. That production didn’t last, however. The former four-star recruit finished the season with six tackles and 1.5 sacks.

As a redshirt freshman in 2023, Talley totaled five tackles (one for a loss) in five games (58 defensive snaps).

Talley represents Michigan State’s first unanticipated loss at the edge position. The Spartans will also lose sixth-year senior defensive end Khris Bogle, who played the rush end position in Joe Rossi’s defense this season.

It remains to be seen whether redshirt senior defensive end Avery Dunn or sixth-year defensive end Quindarius Dunnigan return to Michigan State. Neither of them took part in the Spartans’ senior day festivities last Saturday.
