Kentucky potentially takes on Coach Cal and Arkansas in ESPN’s latest Bracketology

It’s not a guarantee Arkansas makes it past the opening round of the NCAA Tournament — we’re familiar with that staff’s recent postseason history — but if it does, a date with Kentucky could be on the horizon in the Round of 32.

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi released his latest Bracketology on Tuesday, and let me be the first to tell you, it’s a fascinating one. The professional March Madness dart-thrower lists the Wildcats as a No. 2 seed in the West with the Razorbacks conveniently matched up as the No. 10 seed in the same region — a head-to-head battle in the second round set for Cleveland with a spot in San Francisco on the line the following weekend.

Again, Coach Cal and the gang would have to take care of business against No. 7 seed Texas Tech in round one to get to Kentucky — who would also have to do the same against No. 15 seed Lipscomb, a rematch following the Wildcats’ 29-point win inside Rupp Arena back on Nov. 19. Both sides do that and we get absolute chaos with only one team advancing to the Sweet 16.

If you thought February 1st was a big deal, imagine that one.

Elsewhere, Auburn is the No. 1 overall seed while Kansas, Gonzaga and Tennessee make up the other No. 1s. Iowa State, Marquette and Duke join Kentucky as the No. 2s, followed by Florida, Alabama, Baylor and Purdue as the No. 3s and Houston, Memphis, Oregon and Cincinnati as the No. 4s.

The SEC leads all conferences with a whopping 12 teams making the field of 68, Texas A&M (No. 5), Mississippi State (No. 6), Ole Miss (No. 7), Texas (No. 7), Oklahoma (No. 8) and Georgia (No. 10) making up the others.
