The No. 2 recruit in 2027 was in attendance for Kentucky’s win

It wasn’t just about moving to 7-0 on the year for Kentucky in its 105-76 win over Georgia State on Friday. The Wildcats were also preparing for the future with a big-time special guest in attendance.

Jaylan Mitchell, the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect in 2027, made the trip from his hometown of Evansville to Lexington to soak in the blowout.

“How we feeling BBN,” Mitchell said after the game.

The future five-star was in town with his family for an unofficial visit. He’s earned early scholarship offers from Arizona State, Illinois, Maryland, Missouri, Notre Dame and TCU.

What do you need to know about the newest Kentucky target?

“When you look at the overall body of work for Jaylan Mitchell, it is hard to not be impressed,” On3’s Jamie Shaw said of Mitchell. “The 6-foot-7 forward helped lead his Brad Beal Elite team to a Nike E16 Circuit Championship. Playing up a level, Mitchell averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists throughout circuit play. Mitchell has a strong frame, he is comfortable putting the ball on the floor and either creating or finishing a play. The question that will remain surrounding Mitchell is the athleticism.

“Mitchell uses his natural instincts to get to open spots on the floor. He can play in the middle game, but his current lack of bust saw him struggle at times to finish around the basket. Ultimately, Mitchell is going to have to nail down the jump shot, get his footwork right, and get a more consistent arc in his trajectory. Mitchell understands angles well, on both ends of the floor. He has good hands and is able to take advantage of his opportunities.”
