Tre Harris injury update: Ole Miss WR’s status revealed vs. Mississippi State

Tre Harris injury update: Ole Miss WR’s status revealed vs. Mississippi State

For the first time since 2016, the Egg Bowl won’t be played on Thanksgiving. Mississippi State and Ole Miss will square off on Black Friday this year, and the Thursday injury report has been revealed.

The Rebels got a big boost last week against Florida when Tre Harris returned. However, he appeared to aggravate his groin injury in that matchup and was questionable on the first injury reports ahead of the Egg Bowl. Mississippi State’s injury report didn’t change much from last week.

Ole Miss was one of the teams to fall in an upset-filled week in the SEC a week ago. Florida stunned the Rebels in Gainesville, handing them their third loss of the year and effectively dashing their College Football Playoff hopes. Although Ole Miss wants came in at No. 14 in the latest rankings, it’s the second-highest ranked SEC team with three losses.

For Mississippi State, it’s been a rough first year under Jeff Lebby. The Bulldogs take a 2-9 record into the Egg Bowl as Lebby faces his former boss in Lane Kiffin. They’ve been operating without Blake Shapen after his season-ending injury, and Michael Van Buren has taken over at quarterback since.

Since Lane Kiffin’s arrival in 2020, Ole Miss is 3-1 in Egg Bowl games. The only loss came in 2022, which turned out to be Mike Leach’s final victory.

During his time in the rivalry, Kiffin said he learned more about the meaning of the in-state matchup. By losing one, though, he saw what it means when it doesn’t go your way.

“I think I’ve just learned more about it,” Kiffin said. “… Been on the winning side of it every year but one. To see the losing side and how that felt, makes you want it even more.”
