Gators pushing for Arizona WR commit Muizz Tounkara

The Florida Gators appear to be a legitimate threat to flip 3-star receiver Muizz Tounkara of League City (Texas) Clear Springs from Arizona.

“It’s close,” Tounkara told Gators Online. “Real close.”

Florida offered Tounkara in late October. He’s the No. 128 overall receiver in the country for the On3 Industry Rankings. Tounkara is listed at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds — and the Gators want and need a big receiver in the class following the de-commitment of Joshua Moore.

Tounkara, whom Florida receivers coach Billy Gonzales recently visited, will official with the Gators the weekend of Nov. 23. He will be joined by his parents on that trip.

“I’m really excited,” Tounkara said. “It’s really a blessing to have this opportunity to see the facilities, the campus and what the coaches are talking about. I’ve never been there and it’s a big SEC school, too. That’s huge. They need a big-body receiver.”

Tounkara also plans to officially visit Boise State, but he said Florida is the main competition for Arizona. He has been committed to the Wildcats since July.

“Florida is up there really close,” he said. “We really have to see after this official visit. I haven’t visited there. After the visit, I’ll sit down with my parents and go over the pros and cons. I’ll talk with my family and coaches, talk about everything I’ve seen at the schools and just compare them.”

The chance to play with Florida quarterback DJ Lagway its appealing, Tounkara said.

“He’s most definitely one of the best QBs in the country right now,” Tounkara told Gators Online. “I watched him at Willis (Texas). Now as a true freshman, he’s making plays against Georgia. That’s crazy. It would be a blessing having a great QB like that. We’d have a lot of time together. He’s only a freshman.”
