Auburn TE commit Martavious Collins shuts down recruitment, recruiting others for the Tigers
AUBURN – Martavious Collins, a 3-star tight end from Rome (Ga.), was back in Auburn for the first time as a Tigers’ commit on Sunday.
His intentions were to get back to campus, work out with his future position coach, Ben Aigamaua, and of course tell reporters that he is shutting down his recruitment.
Well, that part came about, anyway. When asked if he would take any other official visits, Collins answered, “No.”
“My whole recruitment is shut down,” he told Auburn Live.
Everything going good with commitment
According to Collins, it hit him while on campus Sunday that he would be a part of the program before too long.
“It’s been good, me and Coach A, we have been growing and connecting,” Collins said. “I was thinking, this was my first time being back since committing, I was like dang, I’ll be playing here in a little bit.”
Collins spent the afternoon with Aigamaua, who gave him a more private one-on-one workout similar to what he would go through at an Auburn practice.
“He tried to kill me,” Collins said while laughing. “No, it was good, we did like a one-on-one workout so I was by myself.”
Aigamaua worked on techniques and intended to fix some things with Collins’ game. He liked that.
“He told me that I need to work on more of the small stuff,” Collins said. “The more I work on small stuff the better my game will get.”
Who is Collins trying to recruit to Auburn now? None other than a guy he committed to Alabama with earlier in the process.
“Yeah, I’ve been trying to recruit Perry Thompson and a couple of other guys,” Collins said. “I feel like it’s going pretty good, still keeping a connection with them.”
Collins will shut it all down and take his official visit near the time he graduates.
“I’m actually doing my (Auburn) official visit this December,” Collins said. “I’m graduating early.”
