Newsstand: Key Notre Dame football recruiting target wins notable award at premier camp

One of Notre Dame’s top wide receiver targets in 2025 earned recognition as one of the top performers in his region Sunday. Four-star wide receiver Cooper Perry claimed wide receiver MVP at the Under Armour ESPN Camp in Utah.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Perry was one of several talented high school football recruits that performed in the camp. The Scottsdale (Ariz.) Notre Dame Prep rising junior also continued his case to be the top prospect in Arizona in his recruiting class.

The On3 Industry Ranking — a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services — considers Perry the No. 226 overall player, No. 32 wide receiver and No. 1 prospect in Arizona in 2025. He has a 90.45 rating.

In On3’s own rankings, he’s the No. 49 wide receiver and No. 2 prospect in Arizona. On3 — who gave him an 89 rating — ranks interior offensive lineman Logan Powell from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro as the No. 1 prospect in the state.

Sammie Hunter, a 2024 cornerback prospect from Chandler (Ariz.) High, was the only other prospect from Arizona to win MVP honors at the Under Armour ESPN Camp in Utah. Hunter is a teammate of 2024 Notre Dame safety verbal commit Kennedy Urlacher.

Perry unofficially visited Notre Dame for a spring practice on March 24. Irish wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey also visited his high school during the NCAA spring recruiting evaluation period. Perry’s connection with ND could further with a June unofficial visit in the works.

Blue & Gold recruiting insider Mike Singer filed an On3 Recruiting Expert Prediction in favor of the Fighting Irish to land Perry on May 9.

As a sophomore, Perry had 78 receptions for 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns in 13 games.

Perry’s On3 NIL Valuation annual value is $78,000.

During his official visit, 2024 four-star tight end target Carter Nelson shared a photo of him walking with Irish offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Gerad Parker at Notre Dame Stadium.
