Newsstand: Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale appears to throw shade at New York Giants

Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale spent 20 seasons in the NFL before coming to Ann Arbor, including seven as a professional coordinator. The last two were with the New York Giants, before he parted ways with the organization this past offseason.
Martindale hadn’t been a college coach since the early 2000s at Western Kentucky, and times have changed. The 61-year-old was asked at his Wednesday press conference whether or not he plans to be in college ball for the long haul. During his answer, he appeared to take a shot at the New York Giants, who sit at 2-7, last place in the NFC East.
“Sure. I haven’t sat down and thought about the long haul,” Martindale admitted. “When you’re 61, you just try to think about tomorrow. But yeah, I’m glad that I’m here, I love the players that we have and I think it’s obviously a different game. But it’s a lot better than being at some places that are 2-7.”
Martindale said the current system of recruiting and how involved NIL is in that process is difficult to navigate.
“I think it’s unsustainable, where we’re at right now, and I don’t know how long it’ll last,” he said. “That’s when I start thinking about [my] long term [career in college football]. That’s where I start thinking about that.”

Dotson, who’s being recruited as a defensive back, is the No. 244 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
