Cutter Boley playing against Murray State is on the table for Kentucky
Kentucky starting quarterback Brock Vandagriff is dealing with an injury and his status for next week’s home game against Murray State is undetermined. Rutgers transfer Gavin Wimsatt could be in line to make his first start at UK. But the Wildcats could also play another quarterback in that game.
Offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan said that true freshman Cutter Boley could be an option in Kentucky’s next game immediately after the loss to Tennessee last weekend. Mark Stoops confirmed that he would like to see Boley on the field next Saturday.
“He’s an option,” Stoops said when asked about Boley on Wednesday. “I’d like to see him just like I’d like to see a lot of the young guys.”
“Any game reps you can get somebody. Certainly at the quarterback position it is important. We want to go look good, build on what we’ve done, and try to get better.”
Stoops mentioned that it is easy to tell that ball looks different coming out of Cutter Boley’s right hand and that the young player has a ton of talent. Now Kentucky needs to find the young quarterback game reps. The Wildcats will get a longer extended look in the spring to see what Boley can do against SEC athletes but next week’s game against Murray State could allow the Kentucky staff to get a live game evaluation of the talented young quarterback.
However, you have to win the game first. Cutter Boley likely does not find snaps until the Wildcats have the game in hand. That means either Vandagriff or Wimsatt (maybe both) having success. Kentucky will likely take their time and be careful with how Boley is handled at this point in his career after throwing him into a tough situation on the road against Florida.
“There’s always a balance of developing the young guys and getting them ready for the future,” Stoops explained.
