5 Things: How Arthur Kaluma makes Kansas State better

1.) For the second time since their magical NCAA Tournament run ended, Kansas State has sniped one of the best available players in the country. The Wildcats landed Creighton transfer Arthur Kaluma over the weekend after his official visit to Manhattan. Transparently, though the signal came from K-State head coach Jerome Tang on Sunday, Kaluma had given them his verbal pledge prior to that day.
2.) Just like with Tylor Perry, Kansas State edged out some of the best programs in America for Kaluma’s services. It had been reported that both Alabama and Kentucky were expecting to have him on campus next week, and Texas Tech was very embedded with him and had been recruiting him since the day he entered the transfer portal. However, the only trip that Kaluma had actually scheduled was the one he took t o Manhattan.
3.) That should stem the tides of the panic that engulfed some of the fan base over the course of the last month. As they have shown time and time again since being hired, the K-State coaches always have an answer and always seem to figure it out. The Wildcats have landed two of the best 15 or 20 transfers in the entire cycle and someone that can step up and be an impactful player from day one and contend for a spot on the All-Big 12 first team.
4.) Kaluma was an All-Big East freshmen team pick and averaged in double figures in each of his two seasons in Omaha with Creighton. He has also averaged five and six rebounds per game, respectively, in those two seasons for the Bluejays. As alluded to above, he has first team All-Big 12 potential and forms a great trio for Kansas State with Perry and Nae’Qwan Tomlin. Both Kaluma and Tomlin should be two of the best defenders in the entire league and perhaps country. Each can guard at a high level but also match up with just about anyone on the court.
5.) Two more items come to mind when discussing the latest addition for K-State. And it is the number two. We know that Kaluma will play right away and be a central figure for the Wildcats. But he actually has two years of eligibility remaining, though he is on a mission to reach the NBA. That is why he declared and gave the process a try after this past season. Secondly, Kansas State now has just two spots remaining on the roster.
