Sunday morning intel: 2024 name to know at Mega Camp

The Texas Longhorns are hosting a Forty Acre Takeover Mega Camp today. While the majority of prospects on hand will be in the classes fo 2025 and 2026, there is a 2024 name to know.

Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood leaves zero stones unturned in the evaluation and recruiting process. In the 2023 class it was Trevor Goosby that impressed the Texas staff later in the process. In the 2024 class there are two names that caught the eye of the Texas staff in the spring.

One is Eugene Brooks out of Southern California, who will officially visit June 16-18. The 6-foot-4, 335-pounder is on an official visit to Oklahoma this weekend, and may go to Georgia June 23-25. Texas is considered the favorite headed into the official visit process.

The 2024 name to know attending the Mega Camp today is Texas Tech offensive tackle commit Jacob Ponton. The 6-foot-6.5, 270-pound athletic prospect has made huge gains as a prospect, and is now considered one of the highest upside tackle prospects in Texas in the 2024 cycle.

Ponton is scheduled to work out in front of Steve Sarkisian and Flood today.

Ryner Swanson from the Oregon perspective

The Oregon Ducks staff has some weekend confidence in the recruitment of 4-star tight end Ryner Swanson. To be clear, Inside Texas is not reporting Swanson will end up at Oregon. Just passing along some info.

The thought out of Eugene that the mom prefers BYU. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder and family will visit Monday and Tuesday.

Texas also remains in the hunt. Swanson will think about his decision while on vacation, and announce a decision the first week of July.

Longhorns Nuggets

Inside Texas has been consistent in saying the position coach is going to be a difference maker in the recruitment of 4-star offensive lineman Makai Saina. Well, Kyle Flood continues to do very well with Saina and his mother.

The list of Sunday campers on the defensive line includes Dilan Battle (Mansfield, Texas/Timberview), Carmello Brooks (Katy, Texas/Paetow), Reginald Vaughn (Jackson, Miss./Hartfield Academy) and Kevin Oatis (Hattiesburg, Miss.).

Among the top prospects scheduled to be in Austin on the offensive line are 2025’s Jackson Christian, guard prospect Owen Hollenbeck and Prosper High’s Connor Carty.
