NC State leads for ’24 RB Isiah Jones following offer

NC State leads for ’24 RB Isiah Jones following offer

For years, Isiah Jones was extremely interested in NC State. The Rolesville High running back visited the Wolfpack in January, returned for camp Friday, impressed the coaching staff and left with an offer.

This was a huge development in the class of 2024 athlete’s recruitment. Jones, who also holds offers from Boston College, Columbia and others, was extremely excited to pick up his second ACC scholarship.

“It feels amazing,” Jones said. “It’s from a school I’ve been wanting to go to ever since I was little…

“It’s a feeling I can’t explain, but I really appreciate the coaching staff  and everybody at NC State.”

Coming out of the camp, the running back said Duke, Wake Forest and others have all expressed interest, but he is done with camps after Friday’s performance and said Wolfpack leads his recruitment.

Jones plans on working through his decision-making process and making a commitment in the near future.

“I’m just going to get with my family, just talk with them, but definitely soon,” Jones said. “I don’t want to wait too long.”

Going into Friday, he knew running backs coach Todd Goebbel and head coach Dave Doeren were both keeping tabs on him, so a potential offer would come down to his performance at camp. First, he impressed the staff by measuring in at 5-10 ¾ and 189 pounds.

“I gained some weight, so I feel like that was a huge thing in this process,” Jones said.

He also ran a 4.6 40-yard-dash, clocked a 4.33 5-10-5 shuttle and recorded a 9-8 broad jump, which tied the best leap of the day. His 34-inch vertical was also the second best from Friday’s camp.

After he wrapped up one-on-one competition, he met with Doeren, and that’s when he received the offer.

“It was a great conversation,” Jones said. “He had eyes on me for a while, but he was just being patient, and he felt like this is the right opportunity to offer me.

“With the weight I gained, he just sees me being a hard worker, and that’s why I felt like he offered me.”

Jones then sat down with Goebbel for an in-depth conversation about NC State’s program and how he could fit into that, along with discussions about how the staff can continue to build a relationship with the local running back.

Moving forward, he wants to learn more about the academics at the university, but the rising senior is already getting a positive vibe from the program.

“It’s just a family, and you can see that once you step in the facilities or just walk around campus,” Jones said.

The running back carried the ball 154 times for 1122 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. NC State holds one running back commitment in the 2024 class right now, from three-star prospect Jayden Scott.
