Tim Tebow, Roman Harper debate if ‘honeymoon phase’ is over for Kalen DeBoer, Alabama

Tim Tebow, Roman Harper debate if ‘honeymoon phase’ is over for Kalen DeBoer, Alabama

Alabama went from high to low in the span of a week with their win over Georgia and a loss to Vanderbilt. That rise and fall sparked quite the debate between Tim Tebow and Roman Harper about where things now sit with the Crimson Tide.

Tebow and Harper discussed ‘Bama’s last two games and what they mean during ‘The Paul Finebaum Show’ on Friday. Harper began by focusing solely on the game against Vandy. That alone has already caused a problem between the fanbase and Kalen DeBoer in his mind.

“When you don’t play complementary football, you find ways to lose games and that’s what happened with Alabama. It’s unfortunate,” said Harper. “I mean, it’s really unfortunate because they beat Georgia the week before and raised all these expectations…Now, all of a sudden, the honeymoon phase is over because you lost to Vanderbilt…It’s over.”

However, Tebow disagreed considering what Alabama has done to the ‘Dawgs the week prior. Still, based on the narratives this week, Harper says that clearly doesn’t matter like it did.

“It’s not over. You just beat the No. 1 team in the country!” Tebow shouted.

“Yeah and nobody’s talking about it! Nobody’s talking about it,” Harper responded.

Tebow went back in on that point in saying the Georgia victory is more important than the Vanderbilt defeat in the context of this season. Again, though, Harper differed on it considering how they almost lost to the Bulldogs as well.

“It doesn’t matter what everybody’s talking about. We talk about a lot of silly things all the time. That doesn’t change the fact that you beat the No. 1 team in the country,” said Tebow. “Yes, is it a disappointment? No doubt. But, also, you’ve got to remember, two weeks ago, you beat Georgia.”

“You hung on! You hung on,” Harper reminded him.

In the end, Tebow couldn’t move on from his take. He noted how almost every eventual title team would lose at some point of their seasons, including some that they likely shouldn’t have lost to begin with. Now, with that, especially with the expanded playoff, Alabama remains in the running despite what took place in Nashville.

“I don’t care about the last 40 years. I care about a Saturday. It’s one loss, said Tebow. “Guess what? The team can react. You can grow from it. How many teams over the last 20 years that have won a championship lost a game? A lot of them. Most of them. Your season is not over.”

“I’m just grateful that Alabama doesn’t have y’all’s mindset,” Tebow said to Harper and Finebaum. “They’re probably going to realize, okay, we can grow and we can adapt. We can get better.”
