NC State Newsstand: Pack9 checks in at No. 14 in D1Baseball Top 100 programs

NC State Newsstand: Pack9 checks in at No. 14 in D1Baseball Top 100 programs

After making its second trip to the Men’s College World Series in the last four seasons under skipper Elliott Avent, NC State baseball came in at No. 14 in D1Baseball’s Top 100 programs list this week.

The Wolfpack, which cruised through the Raleigh Regional and the Athens Super Regional to reach Omaha this past spring, has been among the most successful programs in college baseball over the last five seasons. And that earned the Pack inside the top 15 of D1Baseball’s bi-annual program rankings.

“NC State has long been an incredibly consistent program (hence its ranks of 25, 25 and 24 on this list in 2015, 2017 and 2019, respectively), but it seems to have found another gear in the last five years, which have featured two MCWS appearances and a continuation of what is now a streak of nine consecutive seasons with 36 or more wins overall,” D1Baseball’s Joe Healy wrote. “There’s also a lot to like about the future for the Wolfpack. Long-awaited renovations to Doak Field are on the way, longtime assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Chris Hart continues to deliver impact recruiting class after impact recruiting class to Raleigh, and the program boasts a passionate, yet underrated, baseball fan base.”

NC State closed out its fall ball schedule with a 22-4 win over Elon on Wednesday night. Ole Miss transfer Trenton Lyons went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBI in the game, while catcher Drew Lanphere added a 3-for-4 day at the plate with three runs scored and four RBI.

The Wolfpack’s pitching staff also posted 17 total strikeouts with just two earned runs allowed in the 12-inning game. Both sophomore relievers Cooper Consiglio and Jacob Dudan and redshirt junior lefty Jacob Dienes all logged three strikeout innings in their appearances.

NC State also dropped a pair of games against Duke in Durham last week to kick off its scrimmage slate. The Pack has 20 new players and 20 returning players on its current roster as it prepares for another deep postseason run during the 2025 season.

Quote of the day

NC State senior guard Jayden Taylor talked about the Wolfpack’s culture with eight new players on the roster this season.

“If you’re coming to NC State, non-negotiable is playing hard and just talking every day and being confident,” Taylor said. “You can’t come here if you’re not going to play hard. … If you’re not making shots, how can you impact the game in other ways? How do you get the deflections, rebound? I feel like just competing. That’s the culture we’ve built here.”
