Derrick Henry makes Ravens history with crazy 87-yard touchdown run

Derrick Henry makes Ravens history with crazy 87-yard touchdown run

Ravens running back Derrick Henry is unquestionably one of the greatest players to ever set foot on a football field. One of the game’s all-time greats showcased exactly why on Sunday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills, as he turned on the burners in the open field and absolutely cooked their entire defense.

Check it out as Henry turns on the jets and races 87-yards to paydirt, making it the longest run from scrimmage in Baltimore franchise history. It was on their first play of the game. It’s just yet another amazing record for one of the best backs the game has ever seen.

Henry hasn’t disappointed early on Sunday night, already racking up 108 rushing yards and a touchdown on eight carries. He also has hauled in a touchdown catch, helping give the Ravens a 21-3 advantage with 2:00 left in the first half.

Simply put, Henry is one of the greatest running backs to ever play the game. He’s dominated at every level he’s played on. Fun fact: he is the only running back in the history of the game to run for over 2,000 yards in a season in high school (all four years of high school), college (2,219 yards), and the NFL (2,027 yards).

During his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Henry managed to bring home the Heisman Trophy in 2015. He piled up 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns for the entire year. In the regular season, the Florida native piled up a SEC single-season record of 1,986 rushing yards. He also tied the SEC record for rushing touchdowns (23).

The legendary tailback decided to watch his high school highlight tape from his days at Yulee High School (Yulee, Florida). It’s one of the best highlight tapes you’ll ever see of any player on any level. Henry established himself as one of the greatest running backs in high school football history. He pounded and pummeled his way through defenders to the tune of 12,124 rushing yards–setting the national high school career rushing yards record. The record Henry broke, Ken Hall’s 11,232 rushing yards for Sugar Land High School (Texas) in the early 1950s, stood for 51 years.

Not only was the rushing yardage incredible, but the sheer volume of touches his body could withstand was absolutely insane. Quite frankly, it’s not only remarkable what he’s accomplished over the course of his career, but maintaining a high level of performance for as long as he has is equally as impressive. Especially at the running back position, where you don’t see players last very long in the NFL.

His name will forever rest among the greatest the game of football has ever seen. And that’s exactly the way it should be.
