IMG Academy 2024 defensive line prospect TJ Lindsey has Miami in mind as a potential destination as he heads to Coral Gables for an official visit this weekend, and he knows what he’s looking for as he visits the Hurricanes for the second time.
The three-star defensive lineman wants to see if he has the same feeling on his official visit he had the last time he visited Miami for the Canes’ elite junior day May 13 — when he locked in his Miami OV — and is hoping to get a feel for the day-to-day experience of a Hurricane athlete. He’s also hoping to get a better overall feel for Miami’s defensive scheme and the role he’ll play in Coral Gables as the Hurricanes continue their recruiting push.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Miami fourth in the race for the 6-foot-3, 270-pound defensive lineman behind Texas A&M, Arkansas and Texas. The Aggies are listed as the heavy favorite with an estimated 78.1% chance to land Lindsey.
“When I went down there (in May), I just really enjoyed my time,” Lindsey said. “I liked everybody on the staff, especially coach (Mario) Cristobal, coach (Jason) Taylor, coach (Joe) Salave’a. It definitely felt like a potential landing spot.”
Lindsey said the overall feel of his campus visit and his relationship and chemistry with Miami’s coaching staff inspired him to lock in his official visit and he has maintained weekly contact with the Hurricanes.
“Their message to me is usually that they’d love to get me down (to campus) as much as I can, and they’d love to coach me one day,” Lindsey said.
Miami is recruiting Lindsey at the defensive end and JACK positions and coaches see him as a versatile edge rusher while some other schools see him playing along the interior. But opportunity will be a major point of focus for Lindsey during his visit.
“If they have opportunities on the field, off the field, connections, networks, things like that, they’ve got to just check all of the boxes,” Lindsey said.
He sees himself committing sometime during his senior season and will take official visits to Texas A&M and Texas June 16 and 23, respectively. He took an official visit to Auburn June 2.
CaneSport’s Take
Lindsey has earned a fair amount of attention from notable Power Five programs and is another Miami defensive line prospect in a year where the Hurricanes are aggressively pursuing the d-line, and he’s one of more than 20 total defensive line and EDGE prospects Miami pursued this year. He’ll visit Miami alongside five-star defensive line prospect David Stone and five-star EDGEs Colin Simmons and Dylan Stewart this weekend.
